Manual Lymphatic Drainage MLD is an unique, gentle type of skin massage technique that promotes lymph to drain out of a limb into an area that drains normally. It is mainly used for lymphoedema. In addition to improving lymphatic circulation, MLD also increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins.

.Zhu, Shi-Dan; Chen, Ya-Jun; Fu, Pei-Li; Cao, Kun-Fang2017-11-01In southwestern China, tropical karst forests (KF) and non-karst rain forests (NKF) have different species composition and forest structure owing to contrasting soil water availability, but with a few species that occur in both forests. Plant hydraulic traits are important for understanding the species' distribution patterns in these two forest types, but related studies are rare. In this study, we investigated hydraulic conductivity, vulnerability to drought-induced cavitation and wood anatomy of 23 abundant and typical woody species from a KF and a neighboring NKF, as well as two Bauhinia liana species common to both forests.
We found that the KF species tended to have higher sapwood density, smaller vessel diameter, lower specific hydraulic conductivity (ks) and leaf to sapwood area ratio, and were more resistant to cavitation than NKF species. Across the 23 species distinctly occurring in either KF or NKF, there was a significant tradeoff between hydraulic efficiency and safety, which might be an underlying mechanism for distributions of these species across the two forests. Interestingly, by possessing rather large and long vessels, the two Bauhinia liana species had extremely high ks but were also high resistance to cavitation (escaping hydraulic tradeoff). This might be partially due to their distinctly dimorphic vessels, but contribute to their wide occurrence in both forests.

Purpose To perform software-based quantification of bowel wall perfusion using quantitative contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) according to clinical response in patients with inflammatory bowel disease treated with vedolizumab.
Material and Methods In a prospective study, in 18 out of 34 patients, high-frequency ultrasound of bowel wall thickness using color Doppler flow combined with CEUS was performed at baseline and after 14 weeks of treatment with vedolizumab. Clinical activity scores at week 14 were used to differentiate between responders and non-responders. CEUS parameters were calculated by software analysis of the video loops. Results Nine of 18 patients (11 with Crohn's disease and seven with ulcerative colitis) showed response to treatment with vedolizumab.
Overall, the responder group showed a significant decrease in the semi-quantitative color Doppler vascularization score. Amplitude-derived CEUS parameters of mural microvascularization such as peak enhancement or wash-in rate decreased in responders, in contrast with non-responders. Time-derived parameters remained stable or increased during treatment in all patients. Conclusion Analysis of bowel microvascularization by CEUS shows statistically significant changes in the wash-in-rate related to response of vedolizumab therapy.Zhou, Tian; Cai, Wenbin; Yang, Hengli; Zhang, Huizhong; Hao, Minghua; Yuan, Lijun; Liu, Jie; Zhang, Li; Yang, Yilin; Liu, Xi; Deng, Jianling; Zhao, Ping; Yang, Guodong; Duan, Yunyou2018-04-28In vivo assessment of apoptotic response to cancer therapy is believed to be very important for optimizing management of treatment. However, few noninvasive strategies are currently available to monitor the therapeutic response in vivo. Ultrasonography has been used to detect apoptotic cell death in vivo, but a high-frequency transducer is needed.
Fortunately, the capability of ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs) to exit the leaky vasculature of tumors enables ultrasound-targeted imaging of molecular events in response to cancer therapy. In this study, we prepared a novel nano-sized UCA, namely, Annexin V-conjugated nanobubbles (AV-NBs, 635.5 ± 25.4 nm). In vitro studies revealed that AV-NBs were relatively stable and highly echogenic. Moreover, these AV-NBs could easily extravasate into the tumor vasculature and recognize the apoptotic cells with high specificity and affinity in tumors sensitive to chemotherapy.
